Wolfgang Gartner is the professional dance music alias of Joey Youngman.  We spent some time wandering around downtown Austin the other day to get some images together for promotional purposes (outtakes shown here).  Wolfgang is becoming quite a successful step in Youngman’s musical evolution.  From the Wolfgang bio:

It was apparent from the first Wolfgang Gartner release that Youngman was onto something big. Within 6 months of his first outing on Om Records, Wolfgang Gartner had landed 2 top-10 singles on Beatport.com’s sales chart (a high honor in the dance music world), a Pete Tong “essential new tune of the week” on BBC’s Radio 1, and a plethora of DJ support and accolades within the industry. It was early 2008 when Youngman made the decision to pursue the Wolfgang Gartner project full-time. “It’s so hard to do 2 things really well at the same time,” he says. “I realized that I had to pick something and stick to it. So I decided that this new style is the direction I want to go, and to focus all my time and energy on Wolfgang Gartner.”

Youngman is currently residing in Austin and spends most of his time making music in his home studio and pumping it out to the world, or traveling to other parts of the country to do his DJ thing.  His music is available at Beatport.com (search for Wolfgang Gartner) and on iTunes.

Lisa Loeb

Lisa Loeb was in Austin last month for a show at Cactus Cafe, and to help promote her new CD, Camp Lisa.  I spent some time with her during sound check and then we did a quick portrait session (photo).

Camp Lisa is her second children’s music CD.  It features a great set of fun songs and guest performers like Nina Gordon, Jill Sobule, Dave Gibbs, Maia Sharp, and Steve Martin (who plays banjo!).

As a kid, Lisa actually went to summer camp at Camp Champions in Marble Falls.  She visited the camp during her Texas stay to spend time with the kids and sing a few songs.  As Lisa put it, kids tend to do better if they have the opportunity to go to summer camp.  She says it’s a great way to stay mentally and physically active, which helps them retain what they’ve learned during the school months.

Camp Lisa is available exclusively at Barnes & Noble.
