The beautiful and talented Sheena Simmons came by today for some new headshots. She’s been busy with her stand-up comedy and film roles and has been wanting to update her headshots for awhile. Sheena’s got such an energetic and positive presence about her, it’s always fun when she’s in front of the camera. She’s currently represented by Actor’s Clearinghouse here in Austin.

Dedra and I watched Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day (DVD) last night and I mentioned how much I’ve always been drawn to the fashions, music, and general aesthetics of the time period going into the 1940s. The feature takes place as the specter of WWII looms over England. Miss Pettigrew, being of age to remember and be greatly affected by WWI, says at one point, “I don’t think I can take another one,” or something to that extent. Yup.
Photo: From Camp Mabry’s Muster Day 2006. I got some shots during the WWII battle reenactment. Naturally, I noticed the guy who played the part of WWII Combat Photographer.

I was fascinated by Nathan Singleton’s selection of quote and symbolic tattoos. The quote on his lower abs is “the act of love is a confession,” from Albert Camus’ The Fall. On his left arm, “when we love, a sap older than time rises through our arms,” by poet, Rainer Maria Rilke. Not shown, his f-hole tattoos on each tricep to match the ones on his guitar.
Nathan Singleton and The Sideshow Tragedy are playing August 19th at Guero’s, regularly at Momo’s, and will be going on a tour starting in October.

I had a lot of fun hanging out and enjoying some awesome pizza with Drew Smith and the band. We were doing some photos for the band website and afterward, I did a few quick basic band shots for fun. Gotta thank those people at Austin Pizza Garden for their great service and tolerance of a rowdy bunch of guys.

I’m working on a new project featuring Austin-based musicians and their tattoos. Shown here: Robert Baldwin of the band, Wine and Revolution.
Robert shared the stories behind the ink sleeves and how he plans to add more in the near future.
His band hopes to release their new EP soon, but in the meantime, you can catch them at local gigs. The next one is August 13th at the Beauty Bar (with Follow That Bird). Check their myspace link for more.
